Latex-induced occupational asthma
A.V. Basanets
The real prevalence of occupational asthma is much more higher than officially recognized in whole population and in healthcare
professionals. The case of asthma, developed in the nurse, who used the latex
gloves, is reported. The role of latex as a trigger of asthma was proved by means of evaluation of serum latex specific IgE and provocation
test. The use of hypoallergenic latex gloves was proposed as a prophylactic measure to prevent latex-induced asthma in population at
risk.

Activity of lipid peroxidation process in patients with destructive pulmonary tuberculosis with concomitant iron-deficiency anemia
V.V. Volochina, N.I. Fomichova, L.I. Danchenko
The concentrations of malone dialdehyde and the level of catalase activity in plasma of 55 patients with newly revealed destructive pulmonary tuberculosis were
evaluated. A study group comprised 35 patients with concomitant iron-deficiency anemia at
enrolment. In these patients an increased malone dialdehyde concentration was found (the level of malone dialdehyde was reversibly depended on the level of serum
iron). The high level of lipid peroxidation products negatively influenced the catalase activity. The extent of tuberculosis destructive lesions directly dependended upon the grade of the iron
deficiency.

There was studied the state of oxidant-antioxidant system and activity of some indicative enzymes in coal miners. The hazardous occupational factors affected much oxidative and functional homeostasis. Both in healthy miners and those, suffering from chronic obstructive bronchitis, a depression of free radical system and significant accumulation of primary lipids peroxidation products were noted. An extent of above mentioned disturbances was different: from lipids peroxidation in healthy towards organ impairments in chronic bronchitis patients.

Ultrasonic diagnosis of tuberculosis pleurisy
S.I. Zholkevsky
This study was carried out to evaluate the role of ultrasonic examination for diagnosis of tuberculosis pleurisy. We examined 104 patients aged 10-78 years. Ultrasonic exam proved to be helpful in 66 patients. In 38 patients the exudate in pleural cavity was not found. The method applied helped to clarify the exudate localization and volume, and to mark a place for puncture or thoracoscopia. Ultrasonic examination was also used for control of treatment effectiveness instead of X-ray.

The dynamics of the incidence and the morbidity of the extra-pulmonary tuberculosis for 1986-1999 was presented in the
article. The results demonstrated a decreasing extra-pulmonary tuberculosis incidence and
morbidity. Decreased number of cases requiring surgical treatment was registered. It is necessary to work out the national extra-pulmonary tuberculosis control program, improve healthcare network and restore its
structure.

The influence of Singular on a quality of life of asthmatic children
N.V. Naumenko
The aim of this study was the evaluation of quality of life in bronchial asthma
(BA) patients (7-15 years old children) before and after 8 week treatment with specific leukotriene receptor antagonist Montelukast
(MSD).29 patients with mild and moderate BA were examined using routine clinical and functional
tests. For assessing of quality of life E. Juniper's Pediatric Asthma-specific Quality of Life Questionnaire
(PAQLQ) was used. Patients received 5 mg Montelukast chewable tablet once daily at bed-time for 8
weeks. In recent adult studies, Montelukast demonstrated improvement in asthma symptoms control and quality of life in asthmatic
children.

State of hemocoagulation and fibrinolysis in pulmonary tuberculosis patients with concomitant chronic alcoholism, complicated by hemoptysis and lung bleeding
V.I. Potaichuk
The results of this study showed that in tuberculosis patients with concomitant alcoholism there were substantial changes in blood coagulation system. A decreased AJR, tromboelastogram constants R, K, R+K, increased concentration of fibrinogen, platelets and MA constant confirmed the fast blood clot formation. But the forming thrombus was unstable, plump and dissolved quickly due to increased FA and decreased platelets functional activity, low F-XIII, and accumulation of fibrin monomer complexes. All notified changes testified a thrombohemorrhagic syndrome, which could be cause of hemoptysis and lung bleeding.

Diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis in the military during an epidemic
R.G. Protsyuk, L.V. Veselovskiy
The article is based on a report on 54 cases of primary pulmonary tuberculosis in the
military, revealed at pulmonology department of Main Military Clinical Hospital of Defense Ministry of Ukraine in 1999. There was established a correlation between the late diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis end increased number of advanced forms of the
disease, including smear-positive forms, as a result of an absence of total X-ray screening - the effective method of timely diagnosis of pulmonary
tuberculosis.

The diagnostic value of surface tensiometry of exhaled air condensate and blood serum in chronic obstructive bronchitis patients
V. I. Putintsev, R.V. Razumny
Chronic inflammation in chronic bronchitis patients changes the metabolism and cooperation of biological
agents, at the time it same determining the formation of another physical-chemical properties of biological
fluids: viscosity and SS of CMEA and SB. Changes of CMEA surface tensiograms are accompanied by the disturbances of flow dilatation characteristics of adsorption layers and increase of
SS, in correspondence with the stage of disease. In the course of treatment of chronic bronchitis patients we revealed a positive changes of dynamic surface tensiometry of biological
fluids, expressed mostly at 1st stage of a disease.

A new method of examination of exhaled air condensate using an ADSA computer (Canada) is
proposed. The method is based on the analysis of the shape of axis symmetric
drops. It allows to estimate a surface tension, the angle of slope of interphase
tensiograms, viscose-elasticity and relaxation of air condensate. Tensiometric and rheometric parameters of an air condensate of normal
subjects, their interrelations with physical-chemical indices of the blood serum are
presented. The prospects of application of proposed method in pulmonology are
discussed.

Possibilities of Erbisol in pharmacological correction of the disturbances of morphological-functional state and catecholamine-binding function of the erythrocytes in aged patients with chronic nonspecific lung diseases
Т.М. Khrisstiich, L.D. Todoriko
The application of Erbisol in patients with chronic nonspecific lung diseases (CNLD) promotes the increase of antioxidant activity of the membrane
lipids, strengthens its microviscosity, causes the structural changes, which increase the erythrocytes ability to deformation and decreases their aggregation .The stabilization of morphological and functional properties of the red blood cells improves their catecholamine-biding
function.

Principal tendencies of statistical indices on tuberculosis in Ukraine during the last decade
Yu. Feshchenko, V. Melnik, A. Koblyanska
The article is focused on an tuberculosis epidemiological situation in Ukraine and its regions during 1990-1999
years. There have been revealed a deterioration of epidemiological indices that continued
grow.
The principal statistical parameters such as incidence, prevalence and mortality and their interrelation are presented for the whole country and for separate
regions.
It has been established a positive correlation between mortality and an increase of tuberculosis incidence and
prevalence, and negative correlation between mortality and treatment effectiveness
(cavern healing and sputum abacillation ).

The questions to
discuss in DOTS strategy
V.M. Petrenko
Main questions to discuss in DOTS strategy in Ukraine are concerned of diagnostic and treatment of
tuberculosis. Limitation of diagnostic of tuberculosis with MBT positive smear was proved
unacceptable. Advantages of current national strategy in comparison with DOTS strategy were
presented. The pilot studies of efficacy of DOTS strategy will be failed because DOTS strategy not will be used as single
strategy, but will be used as supplement to current Ukrainian strategy .
